It might have looked a little different but this year’s Influential Women of the Sierra Nevada Awards program still celebrated, motivated and inspired. The virtual event, held on October 28th, brought the community together to recognize the contributions of the 40 Influential Women finalists and unveil the Top 10 Most Influential Women of 2020. The program featured an inspirational and educational keynote address delivered by the incredible Dr. Erin Oksol, the unveiling of our Top 10 Most Influential Women of the Sierra Nevada AND lots of opportunities for attendees to engage with other women in the community.

We’re not only about celebrating the amazing women in this community, we’re also about helping them grow. New this year, we are offering opportunities for additional in-depth professional development through a series of professional and leadership workshops. “Understanding and Addressing Microaggressions and Diversity in the Workplace”

Join us for an important workshop that will dive into critical learning and activities to help create more inclusive work environments. Taught through the perspectives of two generations of professional women.
Participants in this workshop will:
- Build Awareness for what women and women of color experience
- Learn what microagressions are
- Create a dialogue around whether you have committed and/or experienced microagressions
- Understand the generational impact of these experiences
- Develop tools for addressing this in yourself and in your workplace

In 2019, Tiffany traveled to Zambia to co-facilitate a Training of Trainers model for girls under the age of 25 and educators from peri-urban areas including Garden, Kamwala, Matero, Mutendere and Chawama as part of the Mandela Washington Fellowship Reciprocal Program. The Training of Trainers guided volunteers of She Entrepreneur to integrate into trainings, lessons that addressed the social needs of young mothers, mostly adolescents who are part of She Entrepreneur Program. Secondly, for educators to incorporate lessons on cross-cultural communication, diversity, inclusion and equity through She Entrepreneur’s program.

“Leveraging Our Stories to Build Our Strength”

Tiffany’s experiences as a beer school graduate, NASCAR pit spokesperson, PGA tour liaison, production assistant on a major TV show and a secret service staffer who helped guard President Bush, Sr., have served her well in identifying that everyone has a story; it is how you use it to make an impact for others that really matters.
Tiffany has served in various leadership roles, and volunteers at a number of non-profits across Nevada. In 2019, she was a recipient of the Reno/Tahoe Young Professional 20 under 40 Award and The Sierra Nevada Most Powerful Women Awards (now Influential Women of Sierra Nevada.) She is a proud wife to Garrett, a third generation building contractor, and mom to two toddlers, Beckett and Brooklyn.

Starting in the training department at IGT, a $15 billion leader in the gaming industry, Karyn recognized the mission-critical role training plays. Committed to sharing her wisdom with those in her field, since 1991, she has taught various electives and core classes in Human Resources for the Extended Studies Program at the University of Nevada, Reno. Karyn is currently the longest serving Continuing Education Instructor and to date, she has had over 3,600 students enroll in her courses.
Armed with a Master’s of Science degree in Human Resource Management, and 2 Bachelor’s degrees (one in Psychology and the other in Communications) from Chapman University plus her SHRM – SCP and SPHR certifications, Karyn is well equipped to deal with the monumental shifts in the HR profession.
Karyn is also a member of the Northern Nevada Human Resource Association (NNHRA which is over 600 members strong) for over 20 years and she served as President of the organization in 2017. She also serves on the Executive Board for Crisis Support Services of Nevada, as well as serving on the Board of Directors for WIN (Western Industrial Nevada). Karyn enjoys volunteering for ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve) which commend companies for supporting our Guardsmen in Nevada.
Thanks to raising 2 teenage daughters, Karyn has mastered the art of crucial conversations, the importance of win/win negotiations, and the benefits of gratitude and teamwork.
